Cape Breton Medical Campus Welcomes First Students

The inaugural class of the Cape Breton Medical Campus (CBMC) was recently celebrated during a special ceremony at Cape Breton University’s Boardmore Theatre. The ceremony, titled Rising Tide, or El~mpa’q in Mi’kmaq, honoured the beginning of a transformative journey for 30 future doctors. The first class is made up of students from across Nova Scotia who have embraced the opportunity to pursue family and rural medicine as future physicians in their home province.

Rising Tide will be an annual event, serving as the official welcome to students beginning their journey through medicine at the CBMC.

The CBMC, adjacent to Cape Breton University’s main campus in Sydney, Nova Scotia, is the result of a partnership with Dalhousie University to offer a rural pathway designed to support recruitment and retention of doctors, which will greatly benefit the health needs of many Nova Scotians.
