Cape Breton University proudly celebrated its 50th Anniversary as an independent post-secondary institution with an autonomous Board of Governors throughout 2024. Throughout the anniversary year, we came together as a community to reflect on our past, celebrate our story and envision our future through exciting events, activities and special projects.
Whether you graduated from one of our predecessor institutions, in CBU’s early years or are part of the CBU community today, thank you for joining us for this year-long celebration of remarkable milestones, shared memories and stories.
Our roots grew from humble beginnings, a story of dedication and perseverance. The College of Cape Breton including Xavier Junior College, Xavier College, the Nova Scotia Eastern Institute of Technology and the University College of Cape Breton set the stage for the CBU we know and love today.
Over the past 50 years, our story has continued to develop and grow. It is our people, our cultures and our strong sense of community that make Cape Breton University what it is today. This legacy continued to be a central theme during the 50th Anniversary, as we highlighted the diverse voices and experiences of those who have contributed to CBU’s success.
As we step into the next chapter of our journey, we remain inspired by the reflections and stories shared throughout our 50th Anniversary celebrations. These memories serve as a reminder of the strong foundation we have built together and the opportunities that lie ahead for future generations of CBU students, alumni and community members.
