September 16, 2021 (7:00 – 8:30 pm., ADT)
The Cape Breton University Art Gallery presents an online panel discussion exploring the structures of power within the field of public art at the tail end of the COVID-19 pandemic. In
the wake of growing, international awareness of the ongoing, devastating impacts of colonialism and capitalism, we ask the following question:
“Are the sites of power within the world of public art largely unchanged or are there now signs of a true shift towards equity and increased agency for artists who have been (or remain) on the margins?”
Special guests Robin Metcalfe, Michelle Sylliboy and Lucas Morneau will share their unique insights in response to this question drawing upon their experiences working within the arts
communities of Mi’kma’ki / Nova Scotia and Atlantic Canada.
The panel will be moderated by CBU Art Gallery Curator, Greg Davies, and presented in partnership with the Lumiere Arts Festival. Viewers will be invited to submit questions for the panellists during the course of the discussion.
