About One Person One Record (OPOR):

One Person One Record is a vision and strategy for healthcare transformation in Nova Scotia, in partnership with Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health.  This agile program takes an experimental, and evidence-informed approach to the re-design of healthcare processes.  OPOR enables a foundation for improved health system governance, integration of patient information across the care continuum, and the standardization of processes and practices.

This internship provides a unique student opportunity to participate and gain experience within multiple program projects.

OPOR consists of a multidisciplinary team from Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health with a variety of clinical, business, IT, program management, and leadership backgrounds.  The team works collaboratively with internal and external partner organizations to provide expertise in guiding the transformation of healthcare in Nova Scotia.

Initiatives and Projects:

One Person One Record Clinical Information System (CIS): This project involves the replacement of the three existing hospital information systems with a core Clinical Information System. It will be designed to simplify the clinical systems environment enabling it to be extended into the larger community.  A $355 million contract with Oracle Cerner (vendor) was approved on February 1, 2023.

Clinical Standardization and Readiness:  The organizational focus of this project is the implementation of governance, and evidence informed best practice in standardization. The work supports the overall One Person strategy and is foundational to the implementation of OPOR-CIS. Clinical Standardization and Readiness represents a coordinated approach to the development and delivery of provincially adjudicated and clinician-developed clinical standardization.

The OPOR Team also want to learn from you! The success of our Interns is a Program priority. In addition to providing general support duties to the OPOR Team and the needs of our health partners, the OPOR Team endeavors to provide Interns with experiences to enrich personal career interests and goals during the internship. OPOR Team members provide regular one-on-one mentorship throughout the internship term.

About You:

We encourage you to apply for one of our Internship positions should you meet the following requirements:

  • You are currently completing or have completed undergraduate level or master’s level studies or professional program and are a student from relevant health, informatics, computer science, engineering, or sciences faculty.
  • You are a student at a technical college or program focused on Data Analytics, Information Management and Technology, Website or Application Development, Graphics Design or Business and Communications Technologies.

Assets:

  • Previous role in health care setting.
  • Experience documenting workflows (BPM+), ability to organize information.
  • Analytical skills, strong attention to detail, excellent communicator, a flexibility with shifting focus, open to feedback, ability to independently solve problems.
  • Ability to work independently and with a Team, adapt well to complex environments, and comfortable working in loosely structured environments.
  • Experience using MS Excel, MS Word, MS power point, MS Teams and willingness to learn new technologies and applications.
  • Ability to create design elements
  • Experience working with clinical data, ability to discern clinical data elements and categorize, ability to identify overall themes

Wages and Benefits:    

$18-21/hr + 4% in lieu of benefits and vacation. Wages are matched to academic program.
