About Supervised Parenting & Exchange:
In partnership with the Nova Scotia Department of Justice Family Court Division, the Supervised
Parenting and Exchange program provides a safe, child-centered environment that is
professionally supervised so non-custodial parents may have visitation with their child.

We are looking for part-time Facilitators to deliver Supervised Parenting & Exchange services in
Sydney. This work takes place mostly evenings and weekends. In Sydney, work is delivered at
the NSCC.
This is an NSGEU Bargaining Unit position. Compensation is $17.26/hr.
Job Description: Supervised Parenting & Exchange Facilitator
The Supervised Parenting & Exchange (SPE) Program is a court ordered Veith House service
funded by the Department of Justice. The SPE Manager receives court orders, completes intake
processes with all parties involved, schedules and supervises visits between the non-custodial
party and the children.
The SPE Facilitator supports the Manager in the delivery of the SPE program. The SPE
Facilitator ensures that families feel safe and comfortable while completing the supervised
parenting services with staff and the facility. The SPE Facilitator is responsible for the delivery of
supervision visits with families. The SPE Facilitator is non-judgemental, empathetic, calm and
present in an environment of complicated circumstances. The SPE Facilitator ensures the
access room is child centered, safe and appropriate for children of all ages.
Reporting to the SPE Manager, the SPE Facilitator is committed to the Veith House mission,
vision, values and the purpose of Veith House.
Responsibilities
● Facilitates visits between a parent and child(ren).
● Maintains appropriate boundaries, professionalism with parents/ courts to ensure
neutrality.
● Ensures visits are child-centered; by helping the child feel comfortable as possible in the
surroundings during visits.
● Creates a neutral, consistent, environment for parents and child(ren).
● Take observational notes consistently and effectively.
● Communicates regular with other team members and the Coordinator.
● Conducts intakes and orientations for both parent parties.
● May on occasion be a witness in court.
● Any other duties as required or directed by your manager.
Qualifications
● Working towards/has a social work degree, social services diploma and/or relevant
education.
● Experience in a Supervised Parenting Program or comparable setting working with
children or families in crisis.
● Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
● Effective negotiation, conciliation and conflict management skills.
● Demonstrated skills in self motivation.
● Non judgmental, respectful, understands confidentiality and conflict of interest.
● The ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time inside and outdoors.
● Ability to work as a part of the Veith House staff team.
● First Aid/CPR an asset.
● Criminal Record Check (with Vulnerable Sector) required.
● Child Abuse Registry required.
Work Conditions/Environment/Physical Demands
SPE Facilitator should be able to carry up to 50lbs, and carry a child.
Days/Hours required: primarily evenings and weekends (some daytime). Scheduling will take
place in advance each month.
