About the Job

Reporting to the Office of the President, the Strategic Communications and Events Department exists to support initiatives, projects, campaigns and events designed to achieve institutional priorities. As a key group of brand champions, the team also plays an important role in raising the visibility, strengthening the reputation, managing the CBU brand, advancing the CBU narrative and extending the reach of CBU’s diverse and expanding mandate through clear, consistent and constant communications.

The Student Communications Ambassador will work in a high energy, fast paced environment to become a valued member of a diverse and dynamic team by participating and assisting in various projects and tasks ranging from communications and content creation to social media support. This position reports to the Student Communications Specialist, working closely with the Communications and Brand Manager.

Duties

Working with the Strategic Communications and Events team on behalf of our internal clients including Recruitment, Student Affairs and Development/Alumni in several areas including, but not limited to, the development and writing of communications plans, best practice research, news releases, storytelling, ad copy, video production and social media content creation.

  • Amplifying Strategic Communications messages and providing insight into student life at CBU.
  • Researching, data collecting, interviewing, editing, presentation support, preparing media kits and other projects.
  • Researching social media best practices for the University’s social media presence including, but not limited to, Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and LinkedIn.
  • Writing and editing compelling content such as: social content, site copy, blog posts, and newsletters emails
  • Liaising with other departments including, but not limited to, Student Affairs, CBU Student’s Union, Marketing and Recruitment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a 3 or 4-year undergraduate program
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Very strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work with deadlines and multi-task on several projects
  • An interest in Strategic Communications
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a team environment and also independently
  • Experience working with social media platforms (Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, etc.)
  • Experience creating social media content (writing captions, creating videos, etc.)

Eligibility

Must be enrolled in full time studies at Cape Breton University and in good academic standing.
