Dr. Murray has been practicing family medicine in Neil’s Harbour, Cape Breton since 1972. Integrity, dedication and commitment are the hallmarks of his distinguished career.
Along with his practice, Dr. Murray has spent much of his career teaching the art of medicine. He has been a medical student preceptor and resident supervisor since 1986. He was named Preceptor of the Year in 1994-95 by the Dalhousie University Department of Family Medicine and in 2007, was the recipient of the Family Practitioner Award by the Dalhousie Medical Alumni Association.
In 1993, he received the President’s Award from the Medical Society of Nova Scotia. The Society of Rural Physicians of Canada awarded him the Rural Long Service Award, as well as a Fellowship. Dr. Murray was given a Senior Membership Award from Doctors Nova Scotia in June of 2022.
Throughout his career, Dr. Murray has also been an active member of his community. He and his wife, Linda, were named North of Smokey Co-Citizens of the Year by the Cabot Trail Lions in 2006. His many interests include genealogy, local history, travel, as well as photography. Living in a place like Neil’s Harbour, it makes sense that Dr. Murray enjoys hiking, kayaking, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. He and Linda have four children.
Dr. Murray plans to retire at the end of December 2022. We wish him well and thank him for his leadership and his dedication to his patients, his students and to the people of his community.
