Dalhousie University and Cape Breton University have partnered to establish the Cape Breton Medical Campus (CBMC) in Sydney, Nova Scotia, with the first cohort of learners set to be admitted in 2025. CBMC is dedicated to enhancing healthcare in rural communities by increasing the number of family physicians and specialists, advancing a preventative and collaborative care model, and creating opportunities for interdisciplinary education and research. A key partner in the Nova Scotia Health Innovation Hub, CBMC is also a leader in rural clinical trials and aging-related research.
CBMC is seeking an Assistant Dean, Clerkship to provide academic and administrative leadership for the Med 3/4 curriculum. This individual will ensure the successful development and delivery of the clerkship curriculum, preparing students to meet key educational outcomes. The Assistant Dean will work closely with clerkship directors, distributed education leaders, and academic administrators to maintain high-quality medical education.
The Assistant Dean will oversee the Med 3/4 curriculum, providing direction to clerkship directors and administrators to ensure smooth delivery. They will manage curriculum development, student assessment, and program evaluation while ensuring compliance with accreditation standards. The role involves monitoring clinical teaching capacity, supporting faculty development, and interacting with students regarding their educational progress and remediation needs.
The Assistant Dean will work collaboratively with distributed education leaders to maintain consistency in training experiences across sites, oversee the implementation of a longitudinal integrated clerkship model, and contribute to faculty development initiatives. They will also be responsible for reporting to CBMC and Dalhousie’s Faculty of Medicine leadership, participating in governance meetings, and ensuring that all accreditation requirements are met.
This role is a 0.3 FTE role and the ability to work flexible hours within the CBMC schedule structure is a requirement
