Director, Skilled Clinician Program – Cape Breton Medical Campus

Cape Breton University and Dalhousie have partnered to establish the Cape Breton Medical Campus in Sydney, Nova Scotia, with the goal of enhancing healthcare delivery in rural communities. CBMC aims to train a new generation of physicians skilled in family medicine, rural practice, and Indigenous health, contributing to Nova Scotia’s evolving health reform agenda.

We are seeking a Director, Skilled Clinician Program to oversee the development, implementation, and assessment of the Skilled Clinician program at CBMC. The director will work closely with the Senior Associate Dean of CBMC and the Assistant Dean of Skilled Clinician and IPE at Dalhousie Medical School to ensure that the program is effectively integrated across all four years of the curriculum. The role includes oversight of the OSCE (Observed Structured Clinical Examinations) program, including blueprinting, case writing, and analysis of results. The director will also ensure the successful integration of clinical science learning throughout the curriculum, with an emphasis on the early years of medical education.

In addition to OSCE oversight, the director will play a key role in faculty development initiatives related to clinical learning and assessment. The role requires collaboration with clinical departments and other educators to enhance the academic rigor of the Skilled Clinician and OSCE programs. The director will also serve on key committees, including the Skilled Clinician Committee and CBMC Leaders Group, contributing to the ongoing development of medical education at CBMC.

To be considered, candidates must hold:

  • MD degree required
  • Master’s degree in Education or Medical Education is considered an asset
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to organize and prioritize workloads, as well as the ability to work independently and multi-task in a deadline driven, team environment
  • Ability to navigate and work with confidential setting with sensitive data
  • Knowledge of medical education programs and/or academic health care environment would be beneficial.
  • Demonstrated self-starter that has shown to exercise initiative and sound judgment in all aspects of work

This role is a 0.3 FTE role and the ability to work flexible hours within the CBMC schedule structure is a requirement
