Operations Supervisor, Health and Recreation

Cape Breton University (CBU) is looking for an Operations Supervisor at the Cape Breton Health and Recreation Centre. This is a Full-Time Continuing Role.

Under the direction of the Manager of Arena Operations the successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our facility. This position encompasses day-to-day operations, staff management, facility maintenance, and upholding our high standards of customer service and safety. You will also oversee related areas on campus, such as the fitness facility at the CBU Arena.

Your responsibilities will include coordinating administrative duties like facility scheduling and budgeting, managing booking requests, and preparing monthly reports. You will hire, train, and schedule part-time staff while guiding them on policies and procedures. Additionally, you’ll oversee facility maintenance, ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, and manage customer service operations, including sales and inventory.

The ideal candidate will have at least three years of experience in facility management, preferably within a recreational or sports setting. A Bachelor’s degree in Sport and Physical Activity Leadership or Facilities Management is a plus. Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills are essential, along with knowledge of building systems and maintenance. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends is required, and certification in First Aid/CPR is an asset.

This role involves both administrative and physical tasks, requiring the ability to lift and operate machinery. You will work in various environments, including indoor facilities and outdoor grounds, and must be prepared for varying weather conditions.
