Senior Facilities Project Manager

Cape Breton University invites applications for the Senior Facilities Project Manager. This is a full-time continuing role.

Some specific responsibilities to this role are to participate in supporting functional design planning, specification writing, drawing review, cost estimation, and tender document coordination. They will be responsible for communication of project updates both internally and externally and provide oversight of design consultants and contractors and interfacing with stakeholders both internal and external.

The Senior Facilities Project Manager will be responsible for Management of infrastructure contracts as well as the contractors and consultants on these projects and Working with the Construction Manager, designers, inspectors, and other key project stakeholders in resolving issues and roadblocks. They will also be asked to Identifying, analyzing, and mitigating risks including devising contingency plans to resolve changes.

Some qualifications of this role but not limited to are:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or an Architecture Degree from an accredited institution. Other combinations of relevant education and experience may be considered.
  • Preference would be given to those Registered as a Professional Engineer with Engineers Nova Scotia or Nova Scotia Association of Architects
  • Minimum 15 years’ experience in project management with a minimum of 10 years’ experience managing the construction of buildings with a value in excess of $15 Million
  • Experience in building design, contracts, construction, and project management.
  • Familiar with creating, evaluating, and awarding tenders and requests for proposals.
  • Budgeting and estimating skills
  • Ability to apply risk assessment and management principles and processes.
  • Experience using project management software such as Procore or Jonas management.
  • Ability to interpret architectural, civil, electrical, and mechanical plans and specifications for buildings.
  • Thorough knowledge of occupational health, safety and environmental regulations, building codes, recognized construction practices, and other applicable municipal, provincial and federal legislation.
