Transferring from Diploma to Degree [2min Read]

After graduating with honours from Sydney Academy in 2010, I took a year off from school because I didn’t have a clue where I wanted to go or what I wanted to do. I didn’t want to make an investment in a program if I wasn’t going to give it my all. I spent a year off from studies focusing on things I love. These activities included being with family and friends, drinking wine, fashion, self-care and the beach.
After my year away from studies, I started taking upgrades at Nova Scotia Community College and decided to put my name on the waiting list for the Licensed Practical Nursing program. I spent a year on the waiting list and in the meantime, I got a job at a local Credit Union as a Member Service Representative (Teller). I enjoyed working at the Credit Union so much that I soon realized nursing wasn’t for me, business was.

I’ve always been interested in business and working for a year in the field only furthered my interests. In high school, my favorite class was economics. My enjoyment of this class coupled with my positive experience at the Credit Union, made me decide to apply to the Business Administration program at NSCC Marconi campus. It was during my second year at NSCC that I realized transferring to CBU was an option, and I decided it would be a positive next step.

I remember seeing a CBU booth set up on NSCC’s campus during my lunch break, and after getting some information and thinking it over, I applied to CBU. I was accepted, had my NSCC credits transferred, and my CBU story began! Being enrolled in the Bachelor of Business Administration program has been fantastic. The small class sizes and helpful professors make the program what it is –  amazing!

If I had to pick my favorite part about attending CBU it would be meeting new friends and being able to further my studies close to home. I could not be happier with my decision to continue my education at CBU and I am so excited for the day to come where I have both my diploma and degree hanging proudly on the wall.

For anyone wanting to make the jump from NSCC to CBU, I would say go for it! I found it to be an easy transition and even though I was a little nervous at first, there are a ton of resources at the university and everyone is really welcoming and helpful. Transferring to get my degree has been a fantastic decision for me and my future.
