Understanding Suspended Billing at CBU [3 min read]

As a university student, ensuring your tuition gets paid on time is very important as it will prevent you from issues related to seeing your final grades or registering for future courses. In this blog, we will outline the upcoming changes related to student financial accounts, billing and fees. This summer, we will be transitioning to a suspended billing format, which we’ll explain more below.

Previously, tuition and fees for both the Fall (September) and Winter (January) semesters were charged upon registration and would appear in your Account Summary at the same time. This method caused some confusion, since Fall tuition is due on September 30 and Winter tuition is due on January 30, but when both charges appeared at once, how would a student truly know how much they needed to pay? This is why we decided to introduce suspended billing.

With this new method, you will see tuition and fees charges (including medical and dental insurance) on your Account Summary for the Fall 2024 semester on August 1, 2024. Charges for the Winter 2025 semester will not be shown on your account until December 1, 2024.

Beginning August 1, 2024, you will be able to view the balance due for the Fall 2024 term by referencing your Account Summary through your Compass Student Account. To access this information, follow these steps:

Step One: Open an internet browser of your choice and visit cbu.ca.

Step Two: Click the Login button in the top right corner of your screen.

Step Three: On the pop-up, go to the left-hand side of your screen under the Student options. Select the third option labeled Compass Student Account.

Step Four: On the Compass Student Account Home screen, select the first option on the left-hand side labeled Student Finance.

Step Five: This will bring you to the Account Summary page, where all of your financial details will be available.

To determine an estimate of your tuition and fees at any time, you can check out your program-specific page at cbu.ca/programs

We hope that making this change will help avoid confusion and allow you to know exactly how much you owe for each semester. Be sure to familiarize yourself with payment deadlines to ensure you don’t fall behind.
