Frequently Asked Questions - Academic Advising

CBU students are issued an official CBU Email Account within one week of confirming their seat via the email address used when their application was submitted in the future student portal. This information will be used to log into your Compass Student Account and is required to book an advising appointment ang register for classes.

If you need assistance regarding your email and password, please contact IT_Services@cbu.ca.

No. Advising information is sent to all first-year CBU students via their First Year Advising Email. Students who have received this email are eligible to select their courses once registration opens. 

Although it is not mandatory, we encourage students to book an appointment to meet with a Student Development Officer if they require additional support planning and selecting first-year courses.

If you are a new CBU student entering an undergraduate program, please contact advising@cbu.ca. All other CBU students can request specific advising help by using this form.

Please refer to the First Year Advising Email sent to your CBU Email Account. Here is a helpful video that shows how to plan and add courses online using your Compass Student Account. If you need further assistance, please contact advising@cbu.ca to ask about registration support sessions.

This email will have everything you need to understand which courses you should focus on registering for first. If you cannot locate this email, please contact advising@cbu.ca.

  1. You need additional support choosing/scheduling/registering for courses or have a question that is not answered in these FAQs or your First Year Advising Email
  2. You want to discuss your academic program requirements
  3. You want to discuss changing your current program of study

The academic plan helps you visualize and plan your degree for the next few years. But, when you add courses to your plan, they are not added to your schedule. Instead, when searching for available courses in the current term, use the filter to view open courses. Once you do that, every course that appears should have the View Available Sections bar to click on. Click on this bar and you will see sections with an Add Section to Schedule button.
