Book Launch: Perseverance Will Triumph: Cape Breton University at 50

11:00am | Yvonne LeVert Hospitality Suite

Join us for the launch of Perseverance Will Triumph: Cape Breton University at 50 by Keith G. Brown, PhD. Perseverance Will Triumph: Cape Breton University at 50 details the history of CBU and its deep commitment to the communities from which it arose. CBU owes its very existence to the support of Cape Bretoners. Established in 1951 as a “feeder college,” it evolved into the College of Cape Breton in 1974 and eventually Cape Breton University.

The book honours CBU’s golden anniversary and chronicles the people, events, developments and innovations that got it there.

The Eagar Brothers’ Auto-Rickshaw Unveiling – A Restoration Project by CBU Art Gallery

1:00pm | CBU Art Gallery

Join us for the unveiling of the Eagar Brothers’ Auto-Rickshaw in celebration of Cape Breton University’s 50th Anniversary.

In 2004, CBU Alumni Jeff, Chris and Steve Eagar embarked on a daring 2600-kilometre journey across India in a three-wheeled auto-rickshaw, driving from Kolkata to Wagah. After their adventurous trip, the Eager brothers generously donated the vehicle to CBU. The restoration project, undertaken by CBU Art Gallery, aims to showcase the vehicle as a permanent art piece to celebrate the Eagar Brothers’ generosity and adventurous spirit, highlight the University’s cultural diversity and bring attention to this unique cultural artifact.

From its humble beginnings to its present-day stature, CBU owes its success to the community that has embraced it with open arms. By engaging in thoughtful habitat restoration and working together with communities around the Island, the project aims to plant species that will be adaptable for the future.
