Tartan Downs Housing Development Update

To the CBU Community,

Yesterday, the Cape Breton Regional Municipality awarded $5.4 million to the Tartan Down’s Housing Development Project through the Federal Government’s Housing Accelerator Fund. We are thrilled with this contribution, and I thank the CBRM, and Mayor MacDougall-Merill for believing in this project.

This investment in the Tartan Downs Project is not only an exciting milestone, but an investment in the community. It is the community who will benefit from this project, and for generations to come.

This project has not been a quick or easy road, but is an example of the perseverance that makes us at CBU who we are. I would like to thank Kent MacIntyre, Project Lead; Doug Connors, Director of Housing and Ancillary Services; and the Urban Neighborhood Development Association for continuing to advance this project.

It is our hope that with this funding, we will be able to unlock the rest of the necessary funds to bring this project to life and begin work with the issuing of tenders in the fall. In the coming weeks, we’ll be providing much more information and details about this project including updated and detailed renderings.

Yours very truly,

David C. Dingwall

President and Vice-Chancellor
