On Friday, November 4, 2022, Cape Breton University will host Dr. Gwynne Dyer as he presents “Planetary Maintenance Engineers,” a lecture on today’s climate crisis. The event will take place from 7:00-9:00pm in CBU’s RBC Lecture Theatre.
According to Dr. Dyer, creating a high-energy civilization was bound to result in the kind of planetary climate crisis our world is entering now. Dr. Dyer has spent several years interviewing more than 50 climate scientists. In this lecture, Dr. Dyer will share what he has learned from each of them.
“Gwynne Dyer is a well-known freelance journalist, columnist, broadcaster and lecturer on international affairs,” says David Johnson, Professor of Political Science at Cape Breton University. “Gwynne Dyer is a good friend of Cape Breton University, having visited many times to host public lectures. His talks are always informative, thought-provoking and entertaining. We look forward to having him back.”
In addition to working in the media, Dr. Dyer is a trained historian and received degrees from Canadian, American and British universities, finishing with a Ph.D. in Military and Middle Eastern History from the University of London. He served in three navies and held academic appointments at the Canadian Forces College, the Royal Military Academic Sandhurst and Oxford University before launching his twice-weekly column on international affairs, which is published in more than 20 countries.
