Cape Breton University’s Boardmore Theatre is proud to present Eurydice, with performances from February 25 to March 2, 2025. Eurydice, written by Sarah Ruhl and directed by Holly Schaller, is a reimagining of the classic myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, but this time, through the eyes of its heroine.
The story follows Eurydice, who, dying too young on her wedding day, must journey to the underworld, where she reunites with her father and struggles to remember her lost love. With contemporary characters, plot twists and a script written to be a playground for designers, the play is a fresh look at a timeless love story.
“This script has been so fun to work with. It’s poetic, dreamy, whimsical, and incredibly and emotionally honest,” says production director, Holly Schaller. “Not to mention, this is going to be the biggest production I’ve ever directed.” She adds that the cast has committed themselves to their roles from day one and their hard work will no doubt result in an incredible show.
With this being a modern spin on a classic, Greek Mythology epic, it calls for unique sets, costumes, props and more, different from anything the Boardmore Theatre has seen before. “Our production team has been working non-stop to make sure the script is honored and the audience gets to experience something truly otherworldly,” says Schaller. “I’ve never had such a beautiful set before, and I want to give an extra special thank you to Cheryl Bray for going above and beyond on this one.”
The production will run for one week with a themed night on Friday, February 28, featuring baked treats and specialty mocktails. Patrons are encouraged to come to the show dressed as their favourite character from Greek Mythology for the chance to win a prize.
