CBU’s Boardmore Theatre Presents: The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time

Cape Breton University’s Boardmore Theatre is proud to present The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, with performances from November 25 to December 1, 2024. A powerful adaptation of Mike Haddon’s novel of the same name, written by Simon Stephens and directed by Russell Colman, the play examines what it truly means to love and the sacrifices it takes to do so.

The production will run for one week with Wednesday, November 27’s show being Pay-What-You-Choose/Foodbank Donation night, where attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items for the CBU Student Food Bank in lieu of tickets. Saturday, November 30, is Talk Back Night, and audience members are invited to stay after the show to meet with the cast and crew.

The story follows the epic journey of Christopher, a fifteen-year-old boy with an extraordinary brain, yet who is ill-equipped to interpret everyday life. When he falls under suspicion of killing his neighbour’s dog, he decides to launch an investigation of his own to find the true culprit. To succeed, he must navigate an unfamiliar world, overcoming challenges and fears along the way.

“Those who like a good mystery will find enjoyment in following Christopher whose journey is deeply inspired by his love of Sherlock Holmes,” says production director, Russell Colman. “With Christopher struggling to decode even the simplest aspects of everyday life, he must push himself out of his comfort zone to identify the real killer. It’s truly a harrowing story and I believe everyone will find something to relate to, regardless of their age.”

Highly theatrical and deeply engaging, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time has been awarded both the Tony and Olivier awards for Best Play thanks to its exploration of thought-provoking themes, unique lead character and profound mystery that continues to leave viewers on the edge of their seats.

“The Boardmore Theatre prides itself on community engagement; our doors are open to all and so we’re very proud to continue offering an eclectic lineup of plays once again,” says Boardmore Theatre Director, Todd Hiscock. “Those offered at the Boardmore are plays that would never be seen in our local area; that’s what has helped us develop such a strong team of directors like Russell Colman, Jule Ann Hardy, Yufeng Ai and Holly Schaller.”
