Two talented student-athletes were presented with the CAPERS Female Athlete of the Year Award at the 45th annual Athletics Award Banquet this March. Bachelor of Business Administration graduate and basketball all-star, Hannah Brown, and Bachelor of Arts in Community Studies student and soccer MVP, Ciera Disipio, took home the shared title after an equally incredible season for the pair.
Both ladies shared glowing reviews of their co-winner after the ceremony.
“It was such a humbling experience to be able to share this award with an amazing player and person like Ciera,” says Hannah.
“Standing alongside Hannah was an honour on its own,” says Ciera. “I hope I can do half as much for my team next year as she did for the women’s basketball program this season.”
As Hannah prepares to end her time at CBU she says she will always carry the memories and pride she has for the university wherever she goes. “I have built so many amazing relationships and saying goodbye to this chapter of my life will be really tough,” says Hannah. “But I can’t wait to be bursting with pride from the sidelines.”
She extends her sincerest thanks to her coaches, teammates, the athletics department, CBU faculty and staff and all of the loyal CAPERS fans that have supported her throughout her basketball career.
Ciera is thankful to have one last season on the pitch next year, and says it would be the icing on the cake of her CAPERS career to take home the AUS trophy and earn a spot at nationals. Most importantly, Ciera looks forward to spending another year on the Island with her teammates. “I want to soak in every aspect of my final year here at CBU,” she says. “I’m taking the time to truly appreciate Cape Breton and everything it represents and I think that will translate to my performance both on and off the field.”
We are so proud of these inspiring student-athletes and can’t wait to see where their respective journeys take them next. No matter what, we know that Hannah and Ciera will continue to be strong leaders in both their athletic and personal lives. Congratulations ladies!
